Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (TUES) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the evening of February 15, an online forum was held linking Overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs to promote trade and investment in the agricultural sector.

This was the first forum organized by MARD to connect Vietnamese expatriates around the world after the Lunar New Year holiday.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of MARD Tran Thanh Nam said Vietnamese agro-forestry and fishery products have been shipped to more than 190 countries and territories. Last year, despite the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the export turnover reached VND 48.6 billion, with the trade surplus reaching USD 6.44 billion.

He appreciated the contributions of Overseas Vietnamese (OV) in introducing the country’s agricultural products to international friends as well as bringing foreign investment to the motherland.

Sharing the same view, Vice Foreign Minister Pham Quang Hieu said that many OVs have reinvested in the homeland, helping to develop high-tech products in the agricultural sector and helping to increase productivity and productivity. product quality and generate more jobs.

The ministry will continue strengthening economic diplomacy and coordination with MARD, localities and agencies to boost the export of agricultural products to the world.

Participating OVs said that in the context of many companies affected by the pandemic, the state should put in place mechanisms to reduce taxes and costs for investors on the ground, as well as policies to better support exporters. /.
